`Boardwalk Empire,' 'Glee' big winners at Globes

It was a good night for HBO, "Glee" and probably the bartenders at Hollywood's annual Golden Globe awards.

HBO's Prohibition-era drama "Boardwalk Empire" dethroned "Mad Men" as television's top drama — in the estimation of Golden Globe voters. Al Pacino and Claire Danes both won acting awards for their roles in HBO movies.

"Glee," meanwhile, won the Globe for television's best comedy or musical, its second Globe for the two years the exuberant Fox series has been on the air.…

Early U2 "a little rinky-dink," says label boss

To mark the 50th anniversary of Island Records, founder and music industry icon Chris Blackwell has taken part in a book tracing the label's formative years and beyond.

"The Story of Island Records" (Universe), edited by Suzette Newman and Chris Salewicz, is a colorful tribute not just to Bob Marley and the Caribbean sound he helped popularize, but to the early history of alternative rock and new wave.

Case in point: Blackwell signed U2 in 1980, but he wasn't all that impressed…

Betty White voted AP entertainer of the year

What Betty White did in 2010 doesn't usually happen: an 88-year-old actress with more than six decades in Hollywood suddenly became the object of adulation of the Facebook-connected masses, which campaigned for her to host "Saturday Night Live," boosting the show's ratings and helping her set ratings records for her own show.

After a year remarkable for a star of any age, White has been voted the Entertainer of the Year by members of The Associated Press.

"It's ridiculous,"…
